What can you expect of me as your mediator?
We will have an emphasis on listening and problem solving in an evaluative caucus format. The goal is to work toward a mediated settlement as efficiently as possible; most of the time, those efforts result in leaving the session with a Memorandum of Understanding or a completed settlement agreement. If it does not, we will not leave the session until we have weighed the probabilities and exhausted all possibilities short of proceeding forward with the litigation. I am a former law school dean and university president, with real world entrepreneurial and
business experience. I also serve as an arbitrator, and have completed the educational training to be a temporary judge.
Education: J.D. from Boston University (1979), M.B.A. from Pepperdine University (1990), and
Ph.D. from Capella University (2006).
Mediation Experience: 250+ litigated cases from 2007-2012. All forms of business disputes, with emphasis on contract, real property, landlord-tenant and professional fee litigation.
Where can you find me when I am not mediating disputes?
I am the Academic Lead for the California State University at Northridge Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, and teach 2 of the 3 courses for the certificate program. We are one of the primary trainers of new mediators for the Los Angeles Superior Court (LASC) and for my efforts on behalf of the court in resolving litigated cases, I was selected as the 2011 LASC ADR Volunteer of the Year. In addition to being on the LASC and Ventura Superior Court mediation panels, I serve as a mediator and arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association in their Attorney-Client fee disputes. Additionally, I serve as a FINRA arbitrator. |
