Allan J. Mayer is an attorney with many years of complex civil litigation experience, combined with expertise in arbitration and mediation in many areas of the law. Allan graduated from Fairleigh-Dickenson University and New York Law School before beginning a successful law career at the Wall Street firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell. His law career involved extensive civil litigation in the fields of real property, leases, contracts, construction, liens, banking, loans, mortgages, bankruptcy, trust, insurance coverage, corporations, securities, products/pharmaceutical/general liability, and legal and medical malpractice. His practice included numerous trials, depositions, and other discovery procedures, motions, TRO attachments, appeals and judgment enforcements. Allan practiced law in New York for thirty-two (32) years before moving to San Luis Obispo in 1991. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1959, and to the California State Bar in 1994. He is also admitted to all the Federal Courts in those states, and has served with great success as an arbitrator and mediator in California for the past six (6) years. This includes appointments as a referee in Superior Court cases, and Judge Pro Tempore at Mandatory Settlement Conferences for the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Superior Court, and as a certified Arbitrator and Mediator with the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), the California State Licensing Board (CSLB), and Kaiser Permanente. Mr. Mayer also authored an article entitled, "Mediation: Creative Advocacy," which appeared in the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association Bulletin. Allan has had extensive experience in the resolution of all types of civil disputes. His dispute resolution experience includes the following substantive areas: Real property, including leases; business/commercial relationships; construction disputes, including bonding, estate and trust matters; medical and legal malpractice; insurance disputes, including bad faith, primary and secondary coverage as it relates to liability; professional fee disputes, employment law; and personal injury, including general and motor vehicle liability. Allan has received extensive dispute resolution training with the NASD and CSLB, and is certified as an Arbitrator and Mediator with the NASD (both in securities and statutory employment discrimination law), the CSLB, Kaiser Permanente and the New York civil courts. He is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, as well as the Women Lawyers Association of San Luis Obispo County, where he has spoken on legal issues. |
